A 25-year-old from Ethiopia is the winner of the 25th Poznań Marathon. Barecha Tolosa Geleto crossed the finish line with a time of 2:11:35. Among the women, Betty Chepkwony from Kenya triumphed (2:29:33). The race was completed by 4,487 people.
The starting signal for the runners was given by the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Jakub Rutnicki, and the Deputy Mayor of Poznań, Marcin Gołek. Both male and female runners started the competition at a strong pace. Up to the 40th kilometer, the men’s lead group stayed together in a small pack, which only broke apart on Grunwaldzka Street. The winner crossed the finish line at Plac Marka with a lead of over a hundred meters. The women’s competition was decided sooner. From around the 30th kilometer, Kenya’s Betty Chepkwony headed toward the finish line alone. After the race, in an interview with journalists, the athlete announced her return to Poznań with the intention of breaking the event record, which could not be beaten in this year’s edition. The top Polish male runner can be very satisfied with the race. Mateusz Lipiński took 8th place (2:24:21), improving his personal best by over 5 minutes. The top Polish female runner, Monika Brzozowska, reached the finish line in 4th place (2:43:05). The route also featured wheelchair athletes. The starting signal for them was given by Joanna Frankiewicz, wife of Maciej Frankiewicz, the patron of the Poznań Marathon. This year, Rafał Wilk, a three-time Paralympic gold medalist, returned to the highest step of the event’s podium.
